THE PITCH

The writing team of Brandy Howard and Julie Goldman bring to you a screenplay for a feature length motion picture called Nicest Thing. Heralded by the world-renowned United Talent Agency as “The Future of The Romantic Comedy,” this script breaks new ground by taking the mainstream, archetypical romantic comedy formula and making it a love story between two women

THATS BEEN DONE BEFORE!

No. It hasn't. Never before has a mainstream romantic comedy been re- imagined with a lesbian twist. Each character in this film was written to be reflective of what “mainstream” audiences are used to seeing. The new (but old) formula we developed with this script is to take a financially successful concept (ie- the romantic comedy), utilize what has worked before, and make it accessible to an untapped, new market (ie- the gay community). How? We took a standard story structure, centered it around a lesbian romance, added a foil (who's also female and gay), threw in a couple gay "bear" best friends and a few straight guys for good measure,- and voila! It's a story unlike any ever seen onscreen before. And there's one more major difference between this film and all the other GLBT movies.. In this screenplay NOT ONE character comes out, struggles with their sexuality or makes being gay the focus of the story. The focus is the romance. The focus is the comedy. The focus is the comedy of the romance. Period.

THE NICHE

This movie is Niche. And that's awesome! There’s 600 Billion dollars in disposable income within the GLBT community. The lesbian market is the most under-served market globally. If this movie just reached lesbians alone - it would do phenomenal business and turn a huge profit. But this movie isn't JUST for lesbians. This film will appeal to straight women, gay men, lesbians, and of course the boyfriends and husbands who are dragged to the theater for date night. There's no reason that the gay market shouldn't have its own CHICK FLICKS and DATE MOVIES, and there's no reason that these same fims can't cross over. Gay or straight- if they’re funny and romantic, they will attract the same audience across the board. This movie is a trailblazer and will open the door to an infinite amount of projects- much like Tyler Perry did for his niche market. He is the perfect example of someone who was told his market wasn't viable and his movies would never succeed. Today, he is a billion dollar industry. The only way to prove that our community is a valid marketplace is by showing that there's money to be made in gay films, and that gay films are capable of crossing over.
